Decent cheap bed Nov 30, 2008

I like the bed but its far from perfect, a little background about me,
I have been sleeping on cheap futons for years, they seam to last
about few years and flatten out to about an inch or two, from the
4 inches or more of its original thickness, I replace the futon when
its to uncomfortable to sleep on, and I like a hard bed, but not to
hard, BTW my weight is about 250lb and just under 6 foot tall, I
ordered this bed thinking about other "Memory foam" mattresses
and how they felt, this bed does not feel like them, its really
really soft and you sink real deep into it.
When I got the bed in, it came in 3 boxes, each had a 4 inch thick
sheet of foam inside, the foam sheets are labeled, something like
soft, medium, hard, and there is a large fitted sheet to hold the
layers together, its a little bit of a struggle to put that fitted
sheet on, and then none of my fitted sheets would fit over that
fitted sheet, all I had was normal size fitted sheets, bed was to
thick for them.
Then I tried the bed, it felt good, but I sunk into the bed real bad, so
much so it was hard to move or maneuver out of the spot I sunk into.
I tried rolling over on my belly and the center part of my body sunk in
so far I was bent into a curve, that did not feel to good, I tried a few
nights like this and did not get much sleep.
After a few sleepless nights I decided to experiment, I removed the
"medium" foam layer and only kept the top and bottom, the "Soft" and
"Hard", and I put a 1.5 inch "Memory foam" mattress topper under the
"Hard" foam layer, because I was still sinking into the foam, and
without the "medium" layer I was sinking down so far I could just
barely feel the foundation the mattress was set on, with it set up
with the mattress topper and the "Hard" and "Soft" layers it works
OK, I still sink into the bed, but not as bad, I would have kept
the the "medium" and "hard" but the top layer is the "Memory foam",
later on I may try the "medium" and "hard" only.
After all that, I decided to better protect the foam layers and make it
easier to move around and work with, the foam layers seam to move
out of place a little bit every time you get in and out of bed, and
the foam sticks together threw friction making it hard to move, so
I got futon covers, the stretchy kind, and put one on each foam layer,
that also helped firm-up the foam a little, I got the mattress topper and
futon covers at Walmart.
Its not a bad bed, I don't hate it, its just a cheep bed, and right now its
not to bad. I only worry about it flattening out over time, and yea next
time I will spend the extra $$$, but like I said its not a bad bed, Its just
a cheap bed.
